My summer holidays

September 3rd, 2008 by ma11hias

Hello everybody!

Today I will inform you about my summer holidays. This started at 27th of Juin.

The first school-free day my parents, my sister and I drove to my uncle who lives near Stuttgart. There we went into the musical “Wicked- The witches of Oz”. The play was really well put on the stage. After two wonderful days, we went home.

There I packed my bag for travelling one week to a self-caterer cottage in Rhineland-Palatinate. The trip was really cool because we went one day into an amusement park. Apart from me, my sister, Bastian and the headteacher’s son Felix were also there.

When we came back I could re-packed my luggage for a second time, because one week later, Marvin, Joelle, Vicky, I and about twenty other young people in our age went with a very little coach to Calella in Spain. The coach was so small that I couldn’t stretch out my legs. After fourteen hours travelling I couldn’t feel them any more. Calella is a lovely, beautiful, little town in north-east of Spain directly in front of the coast of the Mediterranean. We spent two wonderful weeks there. The most time we were lying on the beach and were playing beach games like Beach Volleyball. But we weren’t all the time on the beach. In our hotel we even had an own swimming pool and we made some trips close to Calella. So we had once a a short catamaran voyage to a little cove where we swam and bathed the whole day. Besides we were on a donkey ranch where we all had a lot of fun to take part on the donkey-ride-tour. Another interesting day we experienced, was a trip to Barcelona, where we had a guided tour. Afterwards we had time to exlore the city in groups of three people. At the end of the trip we went into a German disco at night. There were only German holidaymakers from different towns in Spain and France. They were actually as old as we. Hence we heard also some traditional German partysongs.

With hindsight I can say that the trip to Spain was really really cool, because I could get to know new friendly people and because I could improve my Spanish.

I think that I will participate in this youth summer camp to Spain next year again.

The rest of the holidays I passed to met friends and to learn for school.

Class trip to England

May 12th, 2008 by ma11hias

From the 28th to the 02.05.2008 we went with our teacher and his two collies to Oxford. After a 12-hour coach journey we came to our youth hostel in Oxford in the afternoon. The next day we could visit the nice city. At the beginning we got from our teacher a questionnaire which we should fill in to the midday. During this city rally we should speak with the English and have a short conversation with them, as well as explore the city. In the midday we went to Mc Donalds. Then we met together in the city to take part in a guided tour. This was very interesting and also funny. I found this day best, because we had a lot of fun and because we visited interesting buildings like colleges, Christ Church or the Great Hall. On Wednesday we went to London. There we visited Madame Tussauds and took part in a city tour with an English guide in our coach.  I haven’t liked the journey to Stratford upon Avon where Shakespeare was born. I would study willingly in Oxford University but the pretensions to get affiliated are very high. Hence, I make me little hope.

Differences in England:

1. The cars go on the left side of the street and not on the right.                                               2. The number plates of the cars are different than in Germany

I found the school trip very interesting. Many thanks to our teacher who organised our class trip very well.

Work experience

April 13th, 2008 by ma11hias

This year the pupils of the ninth class of our school could take part in a two week work experience programme. I decided to explore the occupational image of the piano-maker. After delivery of an application briefcase I was taken up by the piano house Landt in Dillingen. To the tasks of a piano-maker count tuning a piano, repair the piano mechanic and cleaning old pianos. On 03.03.2008 the work experience began and closed the 14.03.2008. Beside work in the workshop as well as in the business I might play the piano. In the workshop I had to demount the air whippen levers which set the hammer and damping mechanism in motion. The hammer has the task to swing the chord. On Thursday I had to execute the hammers. First of all the felts were exchanged, then the wood was cleaned with steel wool and in the end the hammers were fixed again in the mechanics. Fewest I liked that I have come only about five o’clock at home, exhausted. Finally I can say that the work experience was very exciting and instructive. My career choice is still undecided, nevertheless.

Carnival

February 9th, 2008 by ma11hias

In Germany many people use for the concept carnival the two other synonyms “Fasching” and “Fastnacht”. The word “Fastnacht” derive from the two words “fasta” = abstinence and “naht” = eve. It means today the weeks before Lenten season particulary the last three wonderful days: Carnival Sunday, Shrove Monday and Carnival Tuesday. During this time it gives lots of dances and masked balls for kids and adults. The people welcome each other at this street festival with the acclamation “Alleh Hopp”. The people masquerade as cowboys, Indians, angels and devils, dwarfs, pirates and witches. For musical contributions see bands. In this time the people like to eat “Berliner”. But befare … that are no residents from Berlin but pastries. At Ash Wednesday is the end of the clownish goings. Then begins the Lenten season, which take until Easter. This year I was invited on a birthday party and the next two days I went to two carnival “Umzüge” in Saarwellingen and Roden. I haven’t masquerade myself this year anyway I had not less fun than last year. :-)

The possible end of Christmas Carol

December 7th, 2007 by ma11hias

Ebenezer Scrooge suddenly woke up and noted that he had only dreamt everything what he experienced with the spirits. Eases and cheery he looked through the window. On the street he saw many happy children who played in the snow. He smiled and put himself in his chair near the fireplace. After he had made himself a warm cup of tea, he reached the phone and called to his nephew Fred to apologise for his bad behaviour. After this conversation he felt clearly better. The next morning in the office, he greeted his colleague friendly and wished him a happy Christmas. From this day he tried to be friendly and to be generous. When Scrooge passed away twenty years later, all villagers felt in grief because they had grown fond the old miser.
